Do you have a NEW road atlas?

(Canada too this time!)

Do you have a GPS?

for you “H.O.G.®” Members,,  read up on the “A-B-C’s of Touring®”

we’ve been asked to incorporate them into our rides!

With all the current media blitz about Terry Schiavo  it may be time to consider getting a "Living Will".  No matter what you views are of the Terry Schiavo case in Florida, most people by now have been exposed to enough media coverage to understand that "IF" she had a Living Will, none of this would make the news media.  This same exact scenario is played out EVERY day a thousand times in the United States!

Riding season is upon us so lets all take a moment and reflect on our deepest wishes involving our medical care with regards to our final wishes. When we are incapacitated to make these decisions on our own.  You do not need an attorney to comply with Ohio law. (Please check with your local doctors office or medical hospital for your particular state).

No matter what you particular view on Terry Schiavo is, the only way to avoid this contraversary is to have a valid Living Will.  I can only suggest that you also, and as importantly, have a valid Will. A Will does not have to be as defined or as explicit as you may think. And again you do not have to have an attorney write it!   At least in Ohio it is legal to have three witnesses sign your personal Will.  Check with your particular State for requirements.  Having personally gone through my brother's death with NO WILL and negative assets, all I can say is IT IS NECESSARY TO HAVE THESE Documents! Having these documents will save a great amount of money in legal fees.

This is based on the State of Ohio laws.

The enclosed forms, which were produced jointly by the Ohio State Bar

Association, the Ohio State Medical Association, the Ohio Hospital Association

and the Ohio Hospice & Palliative Care Organization, comply with the requirements

of Ohio law, but you do not have to use these forms. You may wish to consult an

attorney for assistance in drafting a document or you may draft your own.

However, in either case, the documents must comply with the specific language

spelled out in the Ohio Revised Code.

Another medical issue has been brought to my attention by  "First Responders", Police, Firemen, EMT"s, Sheriffs, ect.  The need to have identification ON YOUR PERSON. In our local HOG Chapter we had a husband / wife riding 2-up and pulling a trailer when they got pushed off the free way  July 2004. With their personal identification in the tour pak, not on their person, this became the next problem! As the motorcycle flipped upside-down the tour pak became drastically damaged. As the husband was life flighted to a hospital different from his wife, none of the first responders had any identification on either person! Well the story continues, but the bottom line is it is quite beneficial to YOU to have the first responders know who YOU are

.  There are also privacy issues that I truly understand too. Below are some printable forms available. These may not suit every  situtation.  But a quick stop at you local hospital will provide all the answers to every question you have and usually a printed version of a Living Will. Most mecical  facilities prefer to have a Living Will wrote prior to your admission to the hospital.

There's a form you can print off that was written by a paramedic.

It's free.  Just print one and fill it in by hand with
indelible ink.
